2020 is shaping up to be a year like no other. Covid-19 has turned all of our lives upside down but no more so than for those living in poverty – they have faced a disproportionate impact from the pandemic.
“Many Charities may not survive this pandemic” explains STV Children’s Appeal Chair Baroness Ford in our Interim Report into the impact of the Appeal this year. “Many families will face poverty for the first time in their lives, the compound nature of stress upon further stress will fracture vulnerable families, and we know mental ill health is rapidly becoming the new pandemic. But STV Children’s Appeal stepped into the breach at the earliest stage”.

Thanks to the donations made to the STV Children’s Appeal, the fundraising efforts of individuals, community groups and workplaces across the country, and matched funding from Scottish Government, in first six months of 2020, we have:
- Invested £2.1m to support 5 large projects, 3 capital projects and over 250 small projects across all 32 of Scotland’s local authority areas
- Supported 4,349 people in need of help
- Secured 1,138 hours of volunteer support
- Acquired £85,200 worth of in-kind support
- Secured £250,373 of additional funding for projects we supported
Calum’s Cabin, CentreStage, Children 1st, Save the Children, Street Soccer Scotland, Who Cares? Scotland, Independent Care Review Digital Platform and Youth Scotland have been our Large Project Beneficiaries.

Our Small Projects have been able to provide services which tackled disadvantage that existed before COVID-19. They were able to help families mitigate the impact of shielding, social distancing and in many cases, furlough, and redundancies.
