Who We Help

Magic Breakfast

In 2024, thanks to STV Children’s Appeal’s Big Scottish Breakfast supporters throughout Scotland, we donated £50,000 to Magic Breakfast to help put an end to child morning hunger in Scotland.

In the UK almost one in five children are at risk of starting the day too hungry to learn. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day – it has been proven that skipping breakfast can be a huge barrier to education, negatively impacting learning, attendance and behaviour.[1]

Last year, the funds raised by you, the communities who got together and had a Big Scottish Breakfast in the name of making a difference to Scotland’s young people, were donated to Magic Breakfast. The charity, which makes a difference to over 300,000 children and young people each day, was able to support 15 schools in Scotland to help run breakfast clubs for pupils, providing them with a nutritious breakfast every day.

To celebrate, STV sports reporter Ronnie Charters paid a visit to Inverclyde Academy, one of Magic Breakfast’s partner schools, to join them at their breakfast club.

Ronnie met with the S2 breakfast ambassador who organises the schools breakfast club, who said: “At Inverclyde Academy we love Magic Breakfast because it’s free for all and a brilliant start to everyone’s day because of the huge range of healthy options. What makes it even better is that our school pupils run it.

“Magic Breakfast ensures that people who didn’t have a chance to (or didn’t have food at home) can get something to eat before a long day of learning. It also ensures they can learn to their full potential. We love our Magic Breakfast!”

Ronnie Charters said: “It was amazing to see first hand the incredible work Magic Breakfast does for the schools involved. It is so important for these young people to have access to a good breakfast to fuel them for a full day of learning. It’s also such a great experience for the pupils to run the breakfast club themselves and an excellent opportunity to make new friends and learn organisation skills.”

Head of Corporate Partnerships at Magic Breakfast, Liz Little, said: “Magic Breakfast is delighted to be working with STV Children’s Appeal. With the incredible fundraising efforts from people across the country, we are able to provide 900 children in Scotland with nutritious breakfasts for one school year. A nutritious breakfast helps ensure that no child is too hungry to learn, enabling children and young people to reach their potential.”
