The Wood Foundation has committed its 12th grant to the STV Children’s Appeal

The Wood Foundation has committed its 12th grant to the STV Children’s Appeal, donating nearly £2 million to amplify efforts to improve the lives of children across the country.

The Wood Foundation’s donation supports the Appeal’s partner charities that are addressing the primary causes of inequity, as well as providing immediate support to those who need it most.

One of the charities featuring in today’s telefundraiser is Bairnecessities which collects donated baby items and gifts them to low-income families.

The Aberdeenshire-based charity previously also benefited from receiving a £3,000 grant from the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), The Wood Foundation’s flagship UK education programme.

Ali MacLachlan, The Wood Foundation’s UK Director, met with the charity’s founder Helen Feeney to learn more about the important work they do in their community.

Ali said: “It was inspirational to meet with Helen – a local mum and nursery nurse – on a mission to improve lives of those struggling in North Aberdeenshire.

“She shared how her charity relies on volunteers and the generosity of families and local businesses donating items, money and time. Our partnership with the STV Children’s Appeal empowers many local charities like Bairnecessities to better support those in need.

“The work of the Appeal team is critical to maximising the impact of the monies raised, so this year, a portion of our donation will go towards the administration costs, meaning that every penny raised by the public will go directly to young people and their families.”

The STV Children’s Appeal has directed millions of pounds to charities across the country thanks to the support of partners such as The Wood Foundation, and the generosity of the Scottish public. As well as being a funding partner, The Wood Foundation is also represented on the board of trustees.
